An Amplify Speaker Series lineup comprised of physicians and a chef from University Hospitals, a nutritionist with Vitamix, and a K-9 officer from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District will turn Corporate College East into an interactive “lifestyle as medicine” showcase on April 22.
The ticketed luncheon, presented by Cleveland Business Connects (CBC) magazine, is open to the public and takes place from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sponsors include CBC’s parent company, Contempo Communications, as well as UH’s Ahuja Medical Center, Vitamix Corp., and NEORSD.
Presenters John Selick and Anne Thacker will conduct a 30-minute onstage cooking and nutrition segment. Selick is the executive chef at Ahuja Medical Center; Thacker is a registered dietitian nutritionist with Vitamix. While discussing nutritional eating and health and wellness, they will prepare a salmon dish that each attendee will be free to sample.
The remaining two presenters will follow with a half-hour interactive discussion. Francoise Adan, MD, the medical director of the Connor Integrative Medicine Network at UH, will detail stress management and resilience training (SMART). Roy Buchinsky, MD, the director of wellness at UH and the Robert and Susan Hurwitz Master Clinician in Wellness, will address lifestyle as medicine.
The event will conclude with an audience Q&A from 1:15-1:30 p.m.
Amplify’s customary event-opening networking session will begin at 11:15 a.m. rather than the usual 11:30 a.m.
Throughout the networking session NEORSD invites attendees to “pitch their pills” in an attempt to reduce the inappropriate disposal of unwanted or expired prescription and non-prescription medications. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove such pharmaceuticals, and the medications can end up in a region’s waterways while posing a threat to the environment and public health. Representing NEORSD in person will be the district’s K-9 officer, Storm.
Also during the networking session, Chef Selick will make a broccoli cheddar soup, and Vitamix will prepare smoothies, both of which will be available for attendees to sample. Dr. Adan will highlight stress-reduction techniques while her team demonstrates hand and arm massages.
Individual tickets are $40 for paid subscribers to CBC magazine and $50 for everyone else. VIP tables of eight are available for $595. To register, visit www.cbcmagazine.com/amplify2015. For sponsorship information, contact Sally Weinberg at (216) 831-9557.
