Well friends, Jane Austen had it correct even before the personal branding revolution was invented. The truth behind your brand is the actions you take.

Our society focuses on the external, and we need to build the internal. When we spend time posting useless information and continue to request and push people on social media, our brand becomes annoying and then becomes ignored.

I know that you’re thinking, Katherine is always so positive, and this is not her normal column in CBC. You are absolutely right!

It is time to ask my readers to begin a new revolution, a strategic personal branding revolution that admits we are not all perfect and everyday is not absolute bliss (everyone looks perfect on Facebook and Instagram, right?). The truth is that we need to respect others and ourselves on social media. Our lives can be spent sharing our message with the world, a message that helps others.

Truth1 Your strategic personal brand is built on your accountability and sharing your value with others. There is no room for shameless self-promotion, because your brand is your campaign to help others through the work you do and the talent you have been given. The lies stop because, in strategic personal branding, you realize you are human and not perfect, you make mistakes, and you need hope and support to grow your strategic personal brand.
