Start from the heart — the secrets to successful goal-setting

“The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.” — Earl Nightingale

By Lisa Ryan

Your dreams matter. When you have something to strive for, a purpose for being on the planet, it makes life worth living, doesn’t it?

It’s no secret that having goals helps you design the life you want to lead. There are also a lot of schools of thought on the “right and proper” way to compose a list of aspirations. With all of these ideas, where do you begin? Sometimes the confusion surrounding precise goal setting procedures leads to inaction.

With 2016 right around the corner, it’s important to take the time NOW and plan for your future. If you waved a magic wand and created your perfect year, what would it look like? Take a moment and write it down. Use a mind map. Brainstorm. Put down everything you could possibly want on paper — no matter how “crazy” it sounds.

Taking the time to compose a goal list is a worthwhile investment in your future happiness. And, yes, writing them down is an important step in the process. This is because you use many more senses than you do when you just think about them. You FEEL the pen in your hands, you SEE the words on paper, you HEAR the words in your head and you’re more likely to EXPERIENCE the joy of goal manifestation in the process. It’s been said that a goal that is not written down is just a wish.

It doesn’t matter if you write down your goals and look at them three times a day, visualizing the perfect outcome of your desires. The simple act of expressing your deepest dreams and desires, coming from the heart, deciding what it is that you want more than anything else in the world, and being outrageous in the process, helps you reach the pinnacle of your personal and professional pursuits.

Don’t focus on the goals that you should want. Effective goal setting goes deeper than that. Take the time to feel the passion, the excitement, the YES! of your dreams. Go wild and write down whatever comes to mind. Don’t worry about HOW it’s going to happen or WHEN you can expect to receive the objects of your desire. Trust that it will happen and when the time is right and perfect, it will.

Remember — it’s important to express your gratitude when you achieve your goals!
