Wow! 2016 is coming to a close, and what a year it was. For me the highlights include the Indians in the World Series (and attending games 5-7 with my family), the election coverage and the pandemonium surrounding it, the RNC in Cleveland, and an extended family trip to Captiva Island this summer. Reflection, for me, spurs action and planning for the New Year as I’m sure it does for all of you. As we approach 2017, Contempo and CBC magazine are geared up for some welcomed changes.
I am close to completion of my Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses course, and what an amazing experience this has been for me and hopefully all of the scholars of Cohort 13. Over and over we were told to get comfortable being uncomfortable, and “the truth hurts.” As I’m 20 years into my business, it made me feel great about some things I was doing and awful on other fronts. It connected me to other entrepreneurs and businesses owners more so than any other opportunity in my career. Although we represent various industries and are truly a group of diverse individuals (age, race, experience, roughly the same size businesses, as that’s the criteria for the program), we all add similarities in our businesses as we face the opportunity for growth. I’d like to publicly wish good luck to all the scholars in my cohort, and I can’t wait to hear your successes from your growth plans. I would be remiss in not mentioning Patrice Blakemore, my assigned business advisor in the program. Thank you, thank you, thank you for “keeping it real” for me.
Happy holidays to all of you, and may the season and New Year be filled with hope and prosperity whether you’re starting a business, growing your business or moving on to a new career. We appreciate your continued support of our services and publication.
