Corporate Event Caterer of the Year (Onsite) — Driftwood Catering

As the corporate event scene in Cleveland heightened in 2016, so, too, did Driftwood Catering’s presence. The company opened a new headquarters as well as three new onsite venues. A year earlier the company had determined it had outgrown its catering kitchen at Playhouse Square. Knowing the Republican National Convention was coming to town, Driftwood teamed with Hawthorne Valley Country Club and moved its catering headquarters to Hawthorne’s facility in Solon. With a larger kitchen and onsite premise, Driftwood was able to increase its ability to produce and execute events. The expanded capability also allowed the company to grow from three onsite locations to six venues across the entire city. One of those venues, located at the heart of Playhouse Square, was transitioned from a theater into a banquet space called Cibreo Privato. The space hosted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s tribute event to Johnny Cash. “When designing the menu for this event, we purchased Johnny Cash’s cookbook for inspiration,” Chris Hodgson says. “We used the original recipes and put our own modern twist on them to highlight the flavors Johnny loved, while also bringing a creative fresh take on well-known dishes. We had action stations using cast iron skillets, wood grills, and bricks to bring the guests into the world of Johnny Cash. In attendance of this event was his daughter, who pulled us aside with tears in her eyes to tell us how our chili gave her visions of her dad cooking over the stove on the tour bus. The ability to transport the guests to another time with the look and taste of our food is one thing that we at Driftwood pride ourselves on.” As the exclusive caterer at Calfee law firm, Driftwood crafted several events in the firm’s lobby space. Extensive multifaceted menus were cooked fresh onsite with ovens, fryers, and grills in Driftwood’s outdoor pop-up kitchen. “Our team of culinary specialists build kitchens onsite so that no matter how intricate an event’s menu is, the product reaches the guest in its freshest form,” Hodgson says. At the 925 Building downtown, Driftwood welcomes parties of up to 800. For Veggie U’s annual fundraiser, the company created a farmers market in the middle of this historic Cleveland venue. Each guest got a bag that they filled with fresh produce to take home from the event. Driftwood also brought in plants for guests to view to educate themselves on the mission of Veggie U. “Making a client’s vision come to life is a skill that our team is dedicated to achieving,” Hodgson says.
