Corporate Event Of The Year (Planning Budget >75K) — Up! A Creek (West Creek Conservancy, July 9, Watershed Stewardship Center, West Creek Reservation)

The West Creek Conservancy, to kick off of its 20th year of land and water conservation efforts in Greater Cleveland, welcomed nearly 500 guests to West Creek Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks for its fifth-annual Up! A Creek Gala. Spearheaded by Barbara Hermes, a four-person staff and small events committee balanced event planning with everyday work. Changing the event from an indoor to outdoor venue was the “scariest component to us,” Hermes says. Never before had West Creek had to rent such a large tent (Everything Tented), lighting (GhostLight Productions), portable restroom trailers (Superior Speedy Portable Services), and stage, bars, tables/chairs/linens (All Occasions Party Rental). Cleveland Whiskey, Watershed Distillery, and Great Lakes Brewing Company greeted interested guests with specialty cocktails while Hungry Bee catering provided light hors d’oeuvres. YDesign created a “miniature paddle” (like canoe paddles) for a “Paddles for Parmadale” initiative. The more extensive coordination and logistics as well as the limited staff necessitated the services of event planner Deb Hermann of GhostLight Productions. “We breathed a sigh of relief,” Hermes says. Adds Hermann of the West Creek staff: “They were fearless even though they were out of their comfort zone. Trees in the parking lot under the tent? No problem. Wetland areas next to the tent? No problem. Outdoor cooking? No problem … and on and on. It was so refreshing to work alongside such positive, dedicated, and passionate individuals of integrity. They never lost sight of the big picture. Never. Not once. The evening was a cacophony of color, camaraderie, and the delights of Mother Nature. I am proud to have been a witness to such an evening of true spirit, hard work, and success.”
